Dual-Fuel System Repair

We repair dual-fuel systems, the pairing of a heat pump with a gas furnace that hands off heating duty as outdoor temperatures drop. Homeowners across Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas call us when the furnace runs on mild days, the heat pump keeps struggling through a cold snap, or the changeover never happens at all. Most of the time the fault sits in the control wiring, the outdoor sensor or the thermostat staging. Call us with a description of what the system is doing and when, and we will schedule a visit.

What Dual-Fuel System Repair Involves

A dual-fuel setup has two heating sources and one brain deciding between them. Repair work starts with watching that decision happen. We put the system through a heating call, note which stage energises, and confirm the heat pump and the furnace are not fighting each other. From there we trace the control circuit between the thermostat, the outdoor unit and the furnace board. Mechanical faults matter too, so we check refrigerant performance on the heat pump side and combustion and airflow on the furnace side.

What We Check On A Service Call

We check the balance point setting, the outdoor temperature sensor and its wiring, and whether the thermostat is actually configured for dual-fuel operation rather than a standard heat pump. We inspect the reversing valve operation, the defrost board, the furnace ignition sequence and the limit switches. Filters and returns get a look as well, because restricted airflow shows up as short cycling that looks like a control problem. Then we test the changeover again with the corrected settings before we leave your home.

How We Decide It Is The Right Call

If both pieces of equipment run well on their own and the complaint is timing, comfort swings or a furnace that fires on a fifty degree morning, repair is usually the answer. When the heat pump has a failed compressor or the furnace heat exchanger is compromised, we say so plainly and talk through replacement of that half instead. We will also tell you when a simple thermostat that cannot stage properly is the real limitation across the region.

Dual-Fuel System Repair — quick answers

Why does my furnace run when it is not that cold outside?

Usually the balance point is set too high, the outdoor sensor is reading wrong, or the thermostat was installed in standard mode. All three are repairable. We test the changeover on site and correct the staging.

Can you repair just the heat pump side?

Yes. The two halves are separate equipment sharing one control system, so we can address the heat pump and leave a healthy furnace alone. We still test the handoff afterward to confirm both stages behave.

I smell gas near the furnace. What now?

Leave the house first, then call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Do not touch switches or the thermostat. Once the utility clears the property, call us and we will inspect the furnace side.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form with what you hear, smell or feel. Warm air, short cycling, a breaker that keeps tripping. Details on your porch help us arrive with the right parts.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

A technician checks the thermostat, airflow, the indoor coil and blower, then the outdoor unit and electrical side. You get a plain explanation of what failed and why it failed.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the repair

We walk you through the fix and any parts involved before we start. Once you say go, we make the repair and confirm the system is holding temperature before we leave your driveway.

Why homeowners call us

  • Built for hard summersWe work on attic air handlers in July heat, undersized returns in older subdivisions, and condensers with hail-flattened fins. Those are everyday jobs across the region, so we know where these systems tend to give out first.
  • Air conditioner repair and heating repairOne crew for both seasons. Air conditioning repair when the house won't cool, heater repair and furnace repair when the burners won't stay lit. Same technicians, same records, so nobody starts from scratch in November.
  • We explain the failureYou hear which component failed and what it was doing to the rest of the system. If a repair is a short-term patch on an aging unit, we say so and let you decide the timing.
  • Respect for the houseDrop cloths, shoe covers, and the attic hatch closed the way we found it. We keep the work area clean and we tell you honestly when a problem is airflow or ductwork rather than the equipment itself.
  • All major brands, gas & electricOne independent crew for Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem and more.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
