What the installation actually involves
We start with a load calculation for the room, not a guess, because an oversized head short-cycles and leaves the air damp. Then we pick the mounting spot, drill a small penetration through the exterior wall, and run the refrigerant lines, condensate drain and control wiring in one sleeve. Outside, we set the condenser on a pad or wall bracket clear of the drip line. What we check and install
We look at the electrical first, since most mini-splits need their own circuit and a disconnect at the outdoor unit. We check wall framing, siding type and how the condensate will drain, because a gravity drain beats a pump when we can get one. We install the indoor head high enough to throw air across the room, set the line set with a proper slope, and seal the wall penetration against water and insects. We also register the equipment and leave you the remote, filter access and a walkthrough of the settings.
How we decide ductless is the right call
If your main system cools the house fine but one room runs eight or ten degrees warmer, the answer is often an undersized return or a crushed duct, and we would rather fix that than sell you a head. Ductless makes sense when there is no duct path at all, when the space is used on a different schedule than the rest of the house, or when an addition would overload the existing system. We will tell you which one it is after we walk the space.

Can one outdoor unit run more than one indoor head?
Yes. Multi-zone condensers can support several heads, each with its own thermostat. We size the outdoor unit to the combined load and keep line lengths within the equipment limits so every zone still cools properly.
Will a mini-split heat the room in winter too?
Most of the systems we install are heat pumps, so they heat and cool from the same equipment. In a hard regional cold snap, output drops off, which is why we discuss backup heat before we install.
How big is the hole in my wall?
Usually about three inches, sleeved and sealed on both sides. Outside we cover the line set with a paintable channel so it looks finished rather than like a hose taped to the siding.
